2nd entry 1/11/2020 - In the process

What I did

This week I had my first interview on Tuesday with Dr. Himanshu who is a consultant neuropsychiatrist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. We talked for one hour and he was really impressed by my questions as some of them even made him reflect on some ideas that he hasn’t thought of before which made him post on Twitter about it. That was the first time on

e of my interviewee did this and it felt very nice.

But while I was watching a conference with Jon Grant of the TLC Foundation in order to prepare for my interview with Himanshu I found out that there are more than just one questions that needs answers in terms of research for trick such as:

More research based on big numbers needs to be done

Also, looking into the brain, is the brain for people with trick looking like that before or after they started pulling?

Precision medication – is treating the person rather than the disease, how does that work ?

Challenges

Some of the challenges I had to face was that my interview with Lucinda for next week cannot happen face to face anymore as from Thursday, England is going into a second national lockdown. I contacted her today and she was very open to do it over the phone instead which is good because I didn’t want to lose such a precious interviewee. She also offered to offer me some case studies too.

Moreover, I have talked to Jason when booking my equipment and he told me that I can make a 15-minutes documentary which felt so liberating because that means I can have both national and international interviewees. I limited myself to the national ones at first because I didn’t have this idea but now it is even better as I can talk to many more people. At this point I will try to get interviews with an organisation helping people with trichotillomania from America called Trickstop Relief Specialists and Trickstop.com- online organisation with the same scope as well as Dr. Ruth Dana who is a naturopathic doctor, homeopath and specialises in neurology and mental health.

Future actions to take

• I want to look for some sounds of pulling or try to record and re-create them

• Talk with Lucinda or Leanna from Lucinda Ellery Salon if she can send a picture of the catalogue with the hair for website’s homepage picture.

• Prepare the questions for the case studies and Lucinda

• Add profile picture and main post to the Twitter campaign and start it.
